The girl shared in the Reddit post that her parents are not well educated, having only completed the sixth and tenth grades (mother and father). But she also mentions that her parents worked hard and put in enough effort for her and her brother to study, especially her mother who struggled with their father to keep the kids in a local private school until eighth grade.
But her father wanted her to go to a government school after fifth grade. She wrote, "My father wanted me to go to government school after 5th class."
The girl went to a school with no benches
She also informed in the Reddit post about the type of school she went to for her studies. "To give you a sense of the type of government school I attended, I used to bring a large aata (flour bread) package to class because there were no benches. A typical old government school. My brother started college shortly after I graduated," she wrote.
One day, when the girl was in a conversation with her parents. Her father, who had visited her brother's college, mentioned that the library is quite far from college for their son. The mother thought that it probably would be just "3-4 streets away."
Meanwhile, the daughter explained things further to her mother in terms she would understand easily. She said, "aapke gaon Wale Ghar se ganga ji jitni door tak h" (It is as far as ganga from your house in the village.) Her mother was in disbelief that colleges can be this huge as they never visited her college. Her mother's reaction was too honest.
She further wrote, "My parents never visited my college as it was in another state and my father has only seen my brother's college. They didn't even have an idea of what they wanted for their kids but they worked hard and made sure we studied daily even with lights gone for us to have a better life."
