Indian schools are not immune to bizarre moments. Like every other thing that gets people talking on the internet, an out-of-the-ordinary view of a classroom in Bihar earlier this year left the internet quite flabbergasted.
What Was Happening In Viral Clip?
A video circulating on Twitter went viral back in August, purportedly displaying students inside a classroom holding umbrellas due to a leaking roof. The clip depicts a small classroom with students and a teacher, all seemingly using umbrellas to shield themselves from the leaking ceiling.
From the footage, the classroom seems to be in a state of disrepair. However, what particularly draws attention is the sight of multiple students using umbrellas while attending class. The camera then pans to reveal the leaking roof, showing children trying to protect themselves and their belongings from getting wet.
Where Is The From?
The video was reportedly recorded at Goplapur High School in Saidpur block of Bhagalpur district, Bihar.
Why Are Government Schools In Such Dire Shape?
Reports suggest that the existing condition of government schools in India can be traced back to a blend of systemic, social, and economic factors. These encompass inadequate financial backing, leading to a scarcity of resources concerning infrastructure, facilities, teaching materials, and staff salaries.
According to the reports, numerous government schools grapple with insufficient classrooms, inadequate sanitation facilities, and a lack of basic amenities, hindering the creation of a conducive learning atmosphere. Furthermore, these schools frequently face a scarcity of qualified and adequately trained teachers. This shortage impacts the quality of education and the student-teacher ratios, making it challenging to offer personalised attention to students.
