A woman in British Columbia, Canada had a narrow escape after a 'meteorite' crashed through her roof and landed on the pillow next to her as she slept.
Ruth Hamilton was asleep when she heard a bang and crashing sound last week. She allegedly also felt debris strike her face, Victoria News reported.
She told the news outlet that she just jumped up and turned on the light, unable to figure out what had occurred.
She further said that she immediately dialled 911 and a police officer was sent to the scene. A police officer who responded to her 911 call wondered if the object that landed on her pillow might have come from a nearby construction project. However, that possibility was quickly ruled out.
¡°We called the Canyon project to see if they were doing any blasting and they weren¡¯t, but they did say they had seen a bright light in the sky that had exploded and caused some booms,¡± Hamilton told the outlet.
¡°I was shaking and scared when it happened, I thought someone had jumped in or it was a gun or something. It¡¯s almost a relief when we realized it could only have fallen out of the sky,¡± she added.
Fortunately, she is unharmed and intends to retain the rock for the foreseeable future, claiming that her grandchildren will find it fascinating.
Hamilton said that her insurance company will conduct a walk-through of her property to determine whether roof holes caused by space debris are covered. Apparently, this is the first time the company has received a claim of this magnitude.
