Joining the urban workforce is never an easy journey. From learning the A-to-Z of office small talk to finding the perfect ¡®tapri¡¯ for your afternoon tea, working as an adult can come with its surprises.
For one man on Reddit, the biggest shock of corporate work culture was not the work or the seniors, but the hours of commute every employee has to endure before starting the daily grind.
Man Quits His First Job On Day 1 To Avoid Long Commute Hours
In the post, Reddit user Juicepreet dropped the bomb about how he had left his job on the first day of work after he realised that combining the hours of commute to the office plus the basic working hours, he would only get around 3 hours to stay at home.
The man admitted that he had gotten the chance to work at a "decent" company with "decent" pay. He explained how the hiring process was also a breeze. While he was initially excited to start his first job, he soon realised that the long commute would totally ruin the bliss of having an office job.
One of the reasons behind wanting to work on-site was the user¡¯s desire to be more outgoing and get exposure to rid himself of his introverted personality. However, he explained the metro route he has to endure in order to get to his office, ¡°I live in northwest part of Delhi (Pink line) and the job was based in ¡®Moulsari Avenue.¡¯¡±
The Man Calculated His Monthly Spending
After doing some quick calculations, the man realised that he would only spend 3 hours of his day at home, considering the office hours and commute. Moreover, it would cost him around Rs 5,000 monthly to sustain his daily travels because he cannot relocate.
He asked people on the internet for advice, mentioning that most reputable companies had offices in Gurgaon. The user was rather shocked that employees had to spend the majority of their day outside the four comfortable walls of their home.

The replies he got were eye-opening. People shared their tragic commuting stories about how they have to endure the long hours to have a job that pays well or just do it even without decent pay because Delhi NCR is the hotspot for office employees.
Some mentioned how the long hours of commute had translated into back pains, stiff necks, and migraines, while others offered advice to the man on how to better use these hours spent in a metro or in a jam every day.
