Trump recently compared Narendra Modi with Elvis Presley, by saying that the crowd went crazy for the Indian PM as if he was no less a rock star than Elvis Presley.
He probably meant that the way the crowd greeted Modi was kind of similar to how a crowd of fans would cheer for Elvis Presley when he came to stage. What Trump probably did not know was that Elvis Presley might actually be of Indian descent.
How? Well let us take you through his history.
A journal claims that Elvis Presley is a descendant of German gypsies who emigrated to the U.S. ¡®in the early 18th century, pointing out that his mother's maiden name was Smith ¨C said to be a common surname used by British Romanies.¡¯
The Romani are Europe's largest minority group and studies and researches have found that they migrated from northwest India 1,500 years ago. 'Many of the words and grammatical rules of the Romani language are virtually identical to those of the Hindi language'.
Romani - also known as the Roma - were originally called the gypsies because it was assumed that they were from Egypt. But some genetic studies have suggested that the Romani hailed from India.
The journal also claims that Charlie Chaplin is of gypsy descent.
However, many believe that the theory of Presley being of Romani descent is bogus.
A writer and researcher on gipsy culture David Altheer, reportedly said, ¡®As far as it is known, there is no record of Elvis ever having claimed anything to do with gypsies. The fact someone had gypsy in their family 300 years ago is frankly irrelevant ¨C it does not mean you are a gypsy'.
Gypsy Roma Traveller Hall of Fame claimed that Elvis¡¯s ancestors came from Germany in the early 18th century and their original surname was Pressler.
It further added, 'It is also likely that his mother Gladys Love Smith was a Romanichal'.
To some, these claims actually ring true as they feel that way, Presley¡¯s earthy brown color and black hair can be traced back or justified by being a gypsy.
If any of these claims are true, it would mean that Elvis Presley partially has Romani descent, which would also mean he has a pretty strong Indian connection.
Trump might, in fact, be onto something.
