Winning a lottery is always exciting because it only happens to the luckiest of the lucky. Disbelief is a common emotion one feels after winning a huge amount of money, and this Indian driver, who is now based in Dubai, is going through the same set of emotions.
Who won the lottery in Dubai?
An Indian expat living in the United Arab Emirates, Munavar Fairoos, won the jackpot prize of 20 million UAE Dirhams in the Big Ticket Live draw on December 31.
He had a lucky start to the new year. This sum is roughly equivalent to INR 44,75,67,571 (Rs 44 crore). Thirty persons who contributed to the purchase of the lottery ticket will equally split the winning prize with Munavar, a private driver in Al Ain.
When did he start buying lottery tickets?
Munavar has been a devoted Big Ticket client, according to Khaleej Times. For the past five years, he has been buying lottery tickets every month. As he discussed his future goals, Munavar admitted that he was still in disbelief following the victory. "I honestly did not expect this to happen, so I'm not sure yet."
He continued, "I'm still in disbelief and will need to consider my alternatives for a while." In addition to Munavar, ten other winners received cash prizes totalling 100,000 UAE Dirhams, or around INR 22,68,607 (Rs 22 lakh), including individuals of Indian, Palestinian, Lebanese, and Saudi Arabian nationalities.
How some other Indians also bagged lotteries in UAE
Suthesh Kumar Kumaresan, another Indian, won the lotto on December 31 and took home a million UAE Dirhams, or about INR 22,668,500. Suthesh is an engineer for Etihad Airways and resides in Abu Dhabi.
According to the media, the frequent lottery ticket buyer obtained his winning ticket at the in-store counters at Abu Dhabi International Airport. On his way back to the United Arab Emirates from a family vacation, he purchased his lucky ticket this time.
There are more Indians who have won large lottery prizes besides Suthesh and Munavar. Nalupurackal Keezhath Shamseer, an Indian salesman from Kerala, won a million UAE Dirhams in the Big Ticket draw, according to a report published in the Gulf News on December 29. He and his two childhood pals purchased the winning ticket. The winnings will be divided among the three.
