Man Asks Police To Take Him To Prison Because Life With His Wife Was Unbearable
In a bizarre incident, a man under house arrest in Italy reportedly asked police to take him to prison because life with his wife at home was unbearable.
Every couple has ups and downs in their relationship, and some take the extreme step of separating and end up taking different paths. However, one man had to take help from the police to escape his wife.
In a bizarre incident, a man under house arrest in Italy reportedly asked police to take him to prison because life with his wife at home was unbearable.
The 30-year-old showed up at the police station at the weekend to make the appeal, AFP reported. He told officers he could no longer stand being under house arrest with his wife.
He "was no longer able to cope with the forced cohabitation with his wife", Carabinieri police from nearby Tivoli said in a statement.
"Exasperated by the situation, he preferred to escape, spontaneously presenting himself to the Carabinieri to ask to serve his sentence behind bars," they wrote.
His wishes were granted, albeit, for breaking the terms of house arrest. He was detained straight away at the police station, national newspaper Il Corriere della Sera reported.
He had spent several months under house arrest for drug crimes before going to the station near Rome on Saturday night, Captain Francesco Giacomo Ferrante of the Tivoli Carabinieri told AFP.
¡°He lived at home with his wife and family. It wasn¡¯t going well anymore,¡± the police official told the agency.
He had a few years left of his sentence to serve, Captain Ferrante told AFP.
In an unrelated incident that took place in August, a man in Gujarat's Rajkot tried to burn down a police station in order to save himself from his wife¡¯s alleged harassment.
The man in question was identified as Devo Chavda, a daily wager. He resided opposite the Bajrang Wadi police chowki on Jamnagar Road in the city.
Chavda took the unusual course of action as he wanted to be caught and put in jail so that he could get respite from his spouse. Police arrested him on the charge of damaging government property and registered a case under Section 436 of the IPC.
