A man in New York has filed a lawsuit to marry their own adult child and overturn the existing laws barring the incestuous practice, New York Times reported.
Legal papers filed at the Manhattan Federal Court earlier this month have cited certain reasons under ¡°individual autonomy".
The parent seeks to remain anonymous because their request is ¡°an action that a large segment of society views as morally, socially and biologically repugnant,¡± according to court papers.
¡°Through the enduring bond of marriage, two persons, whatever relationship they might otherwise have with one another, can find a greater level of expression, intimacy and spirituality,¡± the parent argues in the Manhattan federal court claim filed April 1, New York Times reported.
Due to the nature of the lawsuit, the papers do not have much detail regarding the parent and their child, or their gender, ages, hometowns or the nature of their relationship.

The filing said, "The proposed spouses are adults. The proposed spouses are biological parent and child. The proposed spouses are unable to procreate together."
Under the current New York laws, incest is a third-degree felony in the state and is punishable by up to four-years in prison, while an incestuous marriage would be void and those involved facing fines and further jail time.
Marriage licenses in New York's five boroughs require potential spouses to list their birth parents and attest there are ¡°no legal impediments to the marriage,¡± according to the City Clerk¡¯s Office, as reported by the newspaper.
The filing refers to the partnership as PAACNP or Parent and Adult Child Non-Procreationable. It adds, "Parent-and-adult-child couples for whom procreation is either virtually or literally impossible can aspire to the transcendent purposes of marriage and seek fulfilment in its highest meaning."
The parent has termed the present laws 'unconstitutional' and has called on the judges to allow the couple to get hitched in New York City.
