Kenneth Ohm, an 86-year-old retired American physics professor with a passion for astronomy, is preparing to send his DNA to the moon. He hopes that it will be discovered by a sophisticated alien civilization.

When he dies, he intends to have his DNA launched to the moon's southern pole, where it may one day be utilised for cloning. Kenneth Ohm aspired to be an astronaut, but NASA rejected him for being "too tall" during the Apollo programme's prime in the 1960s. Undaunted, Ohm sought another means to realise his dream: he sent his ashes to the moon.

Why does he wish to do so?

According to the Kansas man, the possibilities for his strange suicide wish are limitless. He mentioned that his contribution could one day be critical in an interstellar zoo where his replica is kept as a human specimen. Ohm believes that, like the Republic Army in the Star Wars films, he has a thousand cloned versions of himself, with a million more on the way. If this does not happen, future generations may look at the moon and realise that "Old Ken has his DNA up there, which is enough of an inspiration."

How has Ohm's career been so far?

Ohm has been a teacher for 50 years and the author of various books about the moon and Midwestern life. He has hired Celestis, a Texas-based corporation that specialises in delivering earthing remains and ashes into space or to the lunar surface's south pole. The cost of a one-way flight to the moon is $12,500.

Ohm is not the only one who has this weird thought, according to the publication. Astronauts, civilians, and professional baseball players have all pledged to end their lives in orbit with Celestis.

Since its inception in 1994, the corporation has launched 17 memorial spaceflights. On Christmas Eve, the company's next lunar voyage departs from Cape Canaveral and lands on the moon's northeastern limb, carrying the remains and DNA of FDNY Battalion Chief Daniel Conlisk and his wife, who died last year.
