These Monks In Thailand Give Magic Tattoos And Cannabis Water To Visitors
Video of tourists getting a Sak Yant aka a magic tattoo from a monk in Thailand goes viral. The vlogger also got the chance to try cannabis water at the temple.
Thailand is not only known for its hot and humid weather but also for the myriad of hidden Buddhist practices that are carried out in the country. When visiting Thailand, it is rather hard for a tourist to not visit a Buddhist temple in the country.
Devotees Visit These Monks To Get Magical Tattoos In Thailand
Well, for some tourists who are in search of the unknown and mystical, these religious sites become a one-stop solution to all their curious digging into the country. One such practice that has gained popularity among devout tourists is the Sak Yant (Sak Yan or Yantra) tattoo.
These tattoos are made on a male devotee's body by Sak Yant-practicing monks. The practice has been around for around 2,000 years. Sak Yant is not about simply a monk etching a tattoo on the devotee¡¯s body but the practice also carries protective magic for the carrier of the tattoo.
The tattoo is known to be one of the most painful body modifications one can get. These tattoos are etched by monks that use a fine point needle and a bucket of ink to make the traditional symbols on the devotee¡¯s body. The monk repeatedly pokes the devotee¡¯s body with the needle and administers the black ink inside the body.
The ink itself is known to be a mysterious blend. The magic blend is often a solution special to the monk that is doing the Sak Yant at the temple. While the ingredients can be as outlandish as the monk wants, it is known to have Chinese charcoal, snake venom, palm oil, and even human remains.
Vloggers From the USA Got Inked And Also Tried The Temple's Cannabis Water
LA-based travel creator Jules Nguyen and travel vlogger Trey visited a temple to get a taste of these magical tattoos in Thailand. They filmed their time at the temple. The process of getting the Sak Yant was rather straightforward. The symbol that will be inked on the seeking devotee would be chosen by the monk in charge.
The monk spent time talking to Trey via a translator, knowing the vlogger, his life, and his values. After studying his life, the monk searches his bag and picks out a design that will best suit the vlogger. The monk then starts the process.
While Trey gets his thigh inked, his companion Jules got a taste of the temple¡¯s own cannabis water. From the packaging of the bottle, it looked like the cannabis water was infused with vitamin B12 and other nutrients.
After getting the whole tattoo done, the monk performs a final ritual on the tattoo and blesses the devotee by blowing on the etched ink. The ritual is complete when the devotee who got inked offers a final offering of fruits and flowers to the monk.
