Badri Lal Swarnakar, a former IAS official, recently released a half-yearly exam question paper from the pre-independence era on Twitter. The question paper is on commerce, a subject that most fifth-grade children are unfamiliar with these days.
"Look at the standard of #Class_V papers in the half-yearly #examination in 1943-44 in #India. The #matric_system has made the system so easy!" He captioned the post.
The examination paper revealed that the questions were far tougher than they are now. Students in Class 5 don't even have a commerce course.
The highest mark for the 1943¨C44 paper is 100, and the passing marks are 33. The exam was scheduled to last 2.5 hours. The examiner was asked to assess the price of gold in one of the questions. Another inquires about the flour purchase. Students were instructed to create a business letter that included yet another inquiry.
