We've all experienced that mini heart attack while receiving the bill for a few drinks from a fancy pub. But it can't go above a few thousand bucks, surely not in lakhs.
An Aussie guy experienced the worst shocker after ordering a pint of beer. Journalist Peter Lalor, after a mix-up at a hotel bar in Manchester, England, ended up paying a whopping USD 99,983.64, which is Rs 71,70,226 for a pint of beer at the hotel.
Lalor who works as chief cricket writer and beer editor at The Australian, took to Twitter to share the ordeal. The incident took place at the Malmaison hotel, after a day of watching the Ashes cricket series at Old Trafford.
¡°See this beer? That is the most expensive beer in history,¡± Lalor wrote on Twitter with a photo of a beer from Scottish brewery Caledonian.
¡°I asked a young barman if he had anything that was not an American craft beer or Eurolager,¡± he wrote. ¡°I wanted something a little British.¡±
Lalor, who is also a beer aficionado, wanted the choicest British beer. And so the person waiting on him asked the senior manager to step for some advice.

I paid $99,983.64 for it in the Malmaison Hotel, Manchester the other night.

¡°Anyway, I didn¡¯t have my reading glasses when she presented me with a bill for the beer and when she had some problems with the machine I didn¡¯t think much of it, but it was eventually resolved, I said I didn¡¯t want a receipt and she went to leave.¡±
It¡¯s a good beer. The original version of it won a heap of awards, including the Supreme Champion Beer of Britain, but if you are thinking that no beer is worth the best part of $100,000, then I am inclined to agree with you.

¡°She checked, covered her mouth, started to giggle and refused to tell me, saying only there had been a mistake and she would fix it.¡±

The hotel staff informed him that they will help him get the issue resolved with the bank. He then got a call from his wife telling him that the whole amount was deducted.
¡°It looks like I¡¯ve ordered the most expensive beer in history,¡± said Lalor. ¡°It was good but not that good.¡±
It really is baffling that both Visa and our bank would allow such an amount to go through unquestioned.

And, guess what? They agree that there is a refund in the system but it will take 9 working days for it to go through.
In the mean time there¡¯s a massive hole in my finances
In an incident similar to Lalor's, Rahul Bose paid an exorbitant price of Rs 442, for a pair of bananas. After the incident, JW Marriott Chandigarh was issued a show-cause notice for the same.
