Any animal, even a very dog, can sometimes be unpredictable. Domesticated or not, animals can act out when you least expect it, a fact one man knows all too well.
He is being hailed as a hero after he saved a child from an attack by a vicious pit bull. He single-handedly fought the dog off.
A security camera recorded the entire incident. In the video which is now viral one can see 20-year-old Patrick do C¨¦u fighting off the dog that was attacking four-year-old Joao Pedro in Parque Anchieta, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The horrifying video shows the dog biting the child¡¯s arms and legs, even attacking his head and dragging him around on the ground.
By the end of it, both the child and his saviour needed stitches. Patrick intervened when he saw the dog attacking the little boy. He himself has a two-year-old daughter and he probably had her in mind when he jumped in to save the helpless little boy.
When the animal started attacking Patrick, he set the child on the roof of a car before jumping on the vehicle himself. There was a woman already trying to help the child but she was unable to. The man then tried to get the dog to leave them alone by stamping on its head.
Daily Mirror reported that Patrick who had scratches and cuts on his legs and hands said that he and Joao had to wait on the top of the car for at least half an hour before help arrived.
Joao needed stitches on his neck. Meanwhile, the dog's owner is yet to be identified.
¡°I imagined my own daughter Lara on the ground. She's only two but she's around the same size. When I saw what was happening I got it into my head it was her and I acted on instinct," Patrick explained.
"When I pulled the dog off it had its teeth in the boy's neck. I don't consider myself a hero, far from it,¡± Daily Mail quoted Patrick as saying.
The dog will be kept under observation until the owner is found, and there is no knowing what awaits it.
But it was really brave of the man to risk his own life to save a child.
