Watch: Diver Finds Jellyfish The Size Of A Full-Grown Human Being & It's Gorgeous!
Lizzie Daly saw something large when she was diving off the coast of Cornwall in Britain on July 13. She had seen a barrel jellyfish before but nothing as big as this one Daly who is a biologist and broadcaster swam up to the peach-coloured creature.
For most people, diving in the deep waters is the best idea for rejuvenating themselves, but for Lizzie Daly it became a bit too much of an adventure. She saw something large when she was diving off the coast of Cornwall in Britain on July 13. She had seen a barrel jellyfish before, but nothing as big as this one.
Daly, who is a biologist and broadcaster, swam up to the peach-coloured creature gliding through the water, as cameraman Dan Abbott captured both of them and their encounter. According to NDTV, Daly said, "We weren't expecting anything. It was an absolute delight to get that experience."
Abott and Daly swam up as a part of Wild Ocean Week, a fundraising campaign for the Marine Conservation Society of the UK created by Daly, which was meant to document various marine species off the coast.
"My first reaction was that I've never seen a jellyfish that size in my life," Abbott said as quoted by NDTV. Then, he was focused on staying out of its way and attempting to capture a video of the "beautiful, majestic, slow-moving, graceful animal."
Daly also said that she was not scared when she swam next to the jellyfish and she also hopes that the video inspires others to get excited about swimming in the ocean. "Get in the water, grab a snorkel mask," Daly said. "Just go for it to see what's out there."
Rhizostoma pulmo, commonly known as the barrel jellyfish, is found in the northeast Atlantic and in the Adriatic, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It is common in the Irish Sea. It typically is up to 40 cm in diameter, but can exceptionally reach 90 cm, making it the largest jellyfish in British waters.
A similar incident took place when Maleah Burrows was on St Simon¡¯s island in Georgia, US, when she came across the lifeless body of a fish in the sand. But when she took a closer look at the fish, she saw it had ¡®human teeth¡¯.
According to LadBible, talking about it, she said, ¡°We were just walking along the beach and it was washed up far from the shoreline and caught our attention. I originally thought it was a plain old fish - nothing exciting, but I still wanted to show my three-year-old."
