The clip shows the man taking a hush-hush approach and crawling on the balcony. As he advances to snip the wire in order to erase evidence of electricity theft, he is left embarrassed as an electricity department employee makes him aware of his presence, saying: ¡°Main to yahi khada, bhaiya ( I am here, brother)".
The hilarious incident took place on July 7, when electricity department officials in Ghaziabad got information that some residents of the city¡¯s Muradnagar area were stealing power by illegally connecting cables to power lines. Subsequently, a team of the anti-power theft squad was sent to conduct raids in the area.
As the man in the viral video got to know of the raid by the anti-power theft squad, he decided to immediately rush to the balcony on the first floor of his house to snip a cable he had illegally connected to the power source. As it turns out, without much luck.
Speaking about the incident, Muradnagar Electricity Department SDO Abhishek Maurya told India Today that the overload due to the hot weather has led to frequent power cuts, resulting in more incidents of electricity theft.
He said that an FIR has been lodged by the electricity department in this matter, adding that cases have been registered for all thefts that the electricity department found during the raid.
