Woman Snatches Best Deals, Buys 3 Abandoned Houses In Italy For Just Rs 270
Back in 2019, a Californian woman bought three abandoned houses in Italy for only around Rs 270 and is now fixing them up so she can make use of them.
When it comes to snatching deals, there is no one more qualified than a desi mom. However, a Californian woman proved everyone wrong when she jumped at the opportunity and bought three abandoned houses in Sicily, Italy, for just $3.30 (which roughly comes out to be Rs 270).

Rubia Daniels, a 49-year-old Brazilian expat, bought these houses back in 2019 and is finally fixing them up. Daniels works in the solar industry and coincidentally heard about Italy offering dirt-cheap prices for abandoned houses in a bid to repopulate far-flung towns in the country. Upon hearing the news, Daniels felt a special spark that prompted her to act on her hunch.
The San Francisco resident told Insider, ¡°I was so amazed. It was one of those things where you have to see it to make sure it¡¯s true. I did my research, and within three days I had my plane ticket, a rental car, the hotel, and I left.¡±
After hearing the prices of the place, Rubia left for Mussomeli. This is a small town of some 10,000 inhabitants. It is located near the centre of Sicily, an island off the mainland of Italy.
Many Towns In Italy Are Selling Houses For Similar Prices
Even before the pandemic hit the world, Italy was combating a serious issue of dwindling population and was offering staggering prices for its empty towns. For instance, back in 2019, the Sicilian town of Sambuca di Sicilia was selling houses for as little as $1 in an effort to revitalise the area.
Although these towns were giving up houses at outrageous prices, no one was talking about how renovating these dilapidated houses would take anywhere from $24,000 (about Rs 20 lakh) to $90,000 (nearly Rs 74 lakh).
Daniels has big plans for the three properties she has bought in the country. While one house will be set up for when she visits the place, Daniels has decided to build up the other two places for the welfare of the town, which has welcomed her with open arms.
One of her houses she plans on converting into an art gallery, while another she aspires to turn into a wellness centre for the community. The wellness centre will be her biggest project to tackle. After purchasing the properties in July 2019, Daniels started to work on them in the latter half of the year.
As for now, the exteriors of two properties have been worked on completely, but the wellness centre restoration is yet to begin as it hit a bump in the road with COVID.
