Woman helping parents financially refuses to pay for sister's wedding, is she wrong? Reddit reacts: 'Not an ATM'
Amanda shared how she had been doing the right thing and as a responsible person taking care of her parents financially. Matters came to a head when they turned around and asked her to pay a hefty amount for her younger sister's grand wedding.
Not many realise when their families are taking advantage of them. It's a difficult thing to spot when it comes to loved ones, primarily because you don't expect them to manipulate you this way. This realisation hit Amanda recently when she took to Reddit to vent her feelings. She shared how she had been doing the right thing and as a responsible person taking care of her parents financially. Matters came to a head when they turned around and asked her to pay a hefty amount for her younger sister's grand wedding.
Why did the woman's parents even ask her to pay for her sister's wedding?
AITA for telling my parents I won't pay for my sister's wedding?

26-year-old Amanda took to the AITAH sub Reddit and shared how she worked really hard, supported her family financially and managed to save up a decent amount. Despite the achievement, she was left feeling guilty.
She wrote about how her parents struggled financially and being the reliable kid that she is she helped whenever she could, be it groceries or even her sister's college tuition.
"I¡¯ve been working really hard for the past few years to build my career. I¡¯ve saved up a good amount of money, and I¡¯m pretty proud of that. My parents, however, haven¡¯t been so lucky financially. They¡¯ve struggled for a long time, and I¡¯ve always tried to help out where I can," she revealed.
"I¡¯ve paid for bills, groceries, even covered some of my sister's college tuition. I didn¡¯t mind because family comes first, right?"
Unfortunately, that's one sentiment we all can relate to because we all think like that. Unfortunately for Amanda, she ended up feeling short-changed despite having done a lot for her family. This moment came when her 22-year-old sister Emma got engaged.
"My parents came to me asking if I could help pay for her wedding. When I asked how much they needed, they mentioned a pretty hefty sum, like more than what I¡¯ve saved. I was shocked, and I told them straight up that I couldn¡¯t afford it, especially after all I¡¯ve already contributed."
Sadly, it didn't end there. Her parents got upset with her and even had the audacity to say it was "her duty" to help out and that she was "being selfish" not wanting to help out with Emma's big day.
The problem here wasn't just that Amanda was being taken advantage of, but to expect that she drain her hard-earned savings for a wedding that isn't even hers is a huge ask.
No surprises here but they've stopped talking to her, which tells me Amanda dodged one. "Now, they¡¯re barely speaking to me, and I¡¯m starting to wonder if I¡¯m in the wrong. But on the other hand, I feel like they¡¯re being unreasonable, expecting me to just fork over everything I¡¯ve worked so hard for."
