Why Has The High Court Slapped Him With Rs 2 Lakh Fine?
However, despite the apology, Justice Rekha Palli observed that Grover¡¯s conduct was ¡®appalling¡¯ and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him for violation of the court¡¯s previous order. Earlier in May this year, the court had passed an order asking Grover and BharatPe not to use ¡®unparliamentary¡¯ and ¡®defamatory¡¯ language against each other, as reported by Bar and Bench.
Later, BharatPe filed an application in its pending suit, pointing to some of the social media posts made by Grover earlier this month where he made 'defamatory' remarks against the company.
The court was told that Grover was a habitual offender and had been violating the court¡¯s orders repeatedly.
Who Represeneted BharatPe & Grover In The Court?
Advocate Giriraj Subramanium appeared for Grover today and told the court that he is tendering an apology and giving an undertaking that he would not do anything in violation of the court¡¯s orders.
Subramanium told the court that Ashneer Grover has taken down his tweets as well, as per the Bar and Bench report. Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, appearing for BharatPe, argued that by the time he deleted his tweets, they were picked up by the media and the damage was already done.
Justice Palli examined the applications as well as the apology and shared that she was appalled to see Grover¡¯s conduct. In view of the apology tendered by Grover, the court bound him to his undertaking and added that he must pay costs of Rs 2 lakh to the Delhi High Court Clerks Association.
