Not Done Yet! After Mass Layoffs & Resignations, Elon Musk May Fire More Twitter Employees Today
After laying off 3,700 Twitter employees, firing 4400 contractual workers and facing mass resignations, Elon Musk is not done yet. Twitter CEO Elon Musk is likely to fire more Twitter employees in today's meeting.
After firing top executives including ex-CEO Parag Agrawal, conducting mass layoffs affecting around 3,700 employees, then firing 4,400 contractual workers, facing mass resignations and office shutdown, Elon Musk is considering further layoffs among the remaining Twitter employees.
More Layoffs From Today
Starting as soon as today, Musk is this time targeting layoffs in sales and partnership side of the business, according to people familiar with the matter, as per a Bloomberg report.
Last week, Twitter CEO Elon Musk offered Twitter employees an ultimatum: either stay on and work long hours in a more ¡°hardcore¡± version of Twitter or leave with severance pay. More employees in technical roles reportedly opted to leave than expected, compared to those in sales, partnerships and similar roles.
Last Friday, Elon Musk asked leaders in those organisations to agree to fire more employees. Robin Wheeler, who ran marketing and sales, refused to do so, the people said. So did Maggie Suniewick, who ran partnerships. Both of them lost their jobs as a result.
Wheeler earlier this month had reportedly decided to resign from Twitter, but was convinced to stay, people familiar with the matter said. She has helped Elon Musk communicate with advertisers who are wary of Twitter¡¯s changing policies and vision.
Also, the same day, in a pair of widely distributed emails sent on Friday, Musk called for ¡°anyone who actually writes software¡± to report to Twitter¡¯s headquarters by Friday afternoon. First, though, he asked them to send him a high-level report of the best code they have worked on in the last six months. After the initial call for engineers to come into the office, he also sent a follow-up encouraging people to fly to San Francisco to present in person, as per CNBC.
Several major brands, including General Motors, Volkswagen, Pfizer and General Mills have already said they are pausing spending on Twitter, whereas Balenciaga has quit Twitter after deleting its account recently. Also, former US President Donald Trump recently denied coming back to Twitter despite Musk reinstating his account.
