It¡¯s been 13 years since Steve Jobs left for his heavenly abode but not a day goes by when he is not remembered, especially by people in the tech world. The visionary Apple co-founder revolutionized personal computing, leaving an indelible mark on the world with innovations like the iPod and iPhone.

He left nearly all of his estimated $7 billion estate (equivalent to $9.8 billion/Rs 81,890 crore) to his wife Laurene, while his daughter Lisa and her half-siblings Reed, Erin, and Eva pursued their own paths.

In 1978, Jobs achieved millionaire status. That year, at the age of 23, he fathered his first child, Lisa, with his on-off girlfriend Chrisann Brennan, although he initially denied paternity for several years.

In 1989, he crossed paths with Laurene Powell while she pursued an MBA at Stanford University in California. They married in 1991, and soon after, their son Reed was born, followed by daughter Erin in 1995.

Sadly, the tech trailblazer had little time to enjoy the fruits of his success, passing away in October 2011 after an eight-year struggle with pancreatic cancer. His widow shared with The New York Times in 2020 that Steve did not believe in "legacy wealth building".

Who inherited Steve Jobs¡¯ wealth?

Laurene Powell Jobs inherited the majority of her late husband's estate, estimated at $7 billion by Forbes. This included 40 million Apple shares and 138 million Disney shares acquired when Steve sold Pixar to Disney in 2006 (she has since reduced her Disney holdings to 4%).

Steve Jobs did not believe in amassing wealth, and Laurene has indicated that if she outlives her life expectancy, the fortune will not pass on to her children. Instead, she has directed significant portions of her wealth to philanthropy, primarily through Emerson Collective, a charitable organization she founded in 2004.

Lisa Brennan-Jobs was born in 1978 on an Oregon commune and raised in California by her mother, Chrisann Brennan, who struggled financially and relied on welfare and various jobs to support them. Initially, Steve Jobs denied paternity and claimed he was sterile when faced with a lawsuit from the San Mateo District Attorney demanding child support in 1980. However, a court-ordered DNA test confirmed his paternity. Jobs was subsequently ordered to pay $500 per month in child support and provide health insurance for Lisa until she turned 18.

Reed Jobs

Steve Jobs' son, Reed Jobs, was born in 1991 and named after the college where his father had once studied. He followed in his mother Laurene Powell Jobs' footsteps by attending Stanford University, where he developed an interest in oncology after Steve Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Reed interned in oncology at Stanford at the age of 15 but later shifted his academic focus to history after his father's passing in 2011. He graduated with honors in 2014 and earned a master's degree the following year.

In 2015, Reed returned to his interest in oncology and joined his mother's organization, Emerson Collective, where he became managing director of the health programs.

Erin Siena Jobs was born in 1995, the same year her father achieved billionaire status. Known for her reserved and introspective nature, Erin maintains a highly private profile compared to her siblings. Described as "quiet" in Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, she shared with the author her perspective on her relationship with her famous father: "Sometimes I wish I had more of his attention, but I know the work he¡¯s doing is very important and I think it¡¯s really cool, so I¡¯m fine. I don¡¯t really need more attention."
