India's Biggest Mall At Delhi Airport: Soon, the National Capital Delhi will have the biggest mall in India at Delhi Aerocity, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Aerocity is known for its hotels and restaurants, and it's conveniently close to the airport. It's also situated between the business areas of Delhi and Gurugram. A report in The Times of India says that this mall is part of a huge $2.5 billion expansion project. The mall is expected to be ready in the next three years, while the entire project, valued in billions, will be completed in two phases over the next five years.
This development is part of a $2.5 billion expansion project named Worldmark Aerocity. The project's goal is to create India's first aerotropolis¡ªa city centered around an airport¡ªwhich is expected to grow eight times larger within the next five years, as per the report.
Currently, Aerocity offers 1.5 million square feet of leasable space, with plans to increase this to over 10 million square feet by 2029 in two phases. The development of Aerocity was awarded to Bharti Realty by GMR-backed Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). Bharti Realty holds the lease for Aerocity, which aligns with DIAL's lease for airport development and operations, while state ownership remains unchanged.

Key points about the Delhi Aerocity expansion project and the connectivity options coming up at the IGI airport:
Phase 2 Expansion: Aerocity's Phase 2 will include Worldmark 4, 5, 6 & 7, along with India's largest mall sprawling over 28 lakh square feet and underground parking for over 8,000 cars.
Phase 3 Expansion: Phase 3, set to begin in 2025, will add 40 lakh square feet of leasable commercial space and create a boundaryless district linked by cycle tracks and walkways.
Transportation Hub Development: DIAL is developing India's first interstate multi-modal transport hub near the Aerocity metro station, likely incorporating an interstate bus terminus, Delhi Metro's upcoming Phase 4 line, and the Rapid Rail Transit System station.
Enhanced Connectivity: With different modes of transport available, including the upcoming RRTS, Aerocity will be well-connected, offering convenience to travelers from nearby regions like Meerut, Alwar, and Panipat.
Anticipated Workforce and Footfall: Aerocity is expected to have 20 lakh people working there and an annual footfall of at least three crore upon completion.
Hotel Room Increase: The number of hotel rooms in Aerocity will rise from 5,000 to 7,000 across 16 hotels, with new additions like St Regis and JW Marriott Marquis.
Global Business District Expansion: An additional 65 lakh square feet will be added to the global business district, resulting in a total of 1.8 crore square feet for offices, retail, food courts, an entertainment-focused mega mall, and public spaces.
Development by Bharti Realty: Bharti Realty, the winner of the bid for developing Aerocity, has a lease coterminous with DIAL's lease for operating the airport.
Focus on Mega Mall Development: Bharti Realty is concentrating on developing the mega mall, aiming for it to become India's biggest indoor entertainment destination by 2027.
Leasable Area Expansion: The leasable area in Aerocity will increase from 15 lakh square feet to over one crore square feet by 2029, with expansion occurring in two phases.
