New UK PM Rishi Sunak And His Wife Akshata Murty Have Net Worth Of ?730 Million?

Indian-origin Rishi Sunak, a former Chancellor of the Exchequer of the UK, was yesterday elected as the new leader of the UK's Conservative Party, paving his way to becoming the next Prime Minister of the country.

He is set to replace Liz Truss, who stepped down as Prime Minister on October 20th, after just 45 days in office.

Rishi Sunak will be Britain¡¯s first leader of colour and the first Hindu to take the top job. At the age of 42, he will also be the youngest UK Prime Minister in more than 200 years¡ªa political prodigy whose youthful looks, sharp suits, and smooth, confident manner saw him dubbed "Dishy Rishi" by the British media.

But besides all this, the UK PM designate, along with his wife Akshata Murty, has a mammoth networth of ?730 million, as per this year¡¯s Sunday Times Rich List. The couple were ranked 222 on the UK's wealthiest 250 people list. For the uninitiated, Akshata Narayan Murty is a British-based Indian businesswoman and the daughter of N. R. Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys.

As per various media reports, Sunak¡¯s wife Akshata is wealthier than Queen Elizabeth II, with assets worth ?430 million.

Real Estate Worth ?15 Million

The couple reportedly have real estate worth ?15 million, with four homes, i.e., two in London, one in Yorkshire and one in LA..

The five-bedroom house in Kensington is said to be worth ?7 million alone. The four-storeys¡¯ house also has a private garden. There is another home in London's Old Brompton Road, apparently where the extended family stays when they visit.

In Yorkshire, the couple own a Grade-II listed Georgian mansion, set across 12 acres and including an ornamental lake. Whereas the penthouse in California overlooks the beach where Baywatch was filmed.

Their finances reportedly came under scrutiny as the Labour party called for him to be more transparent regarding loans he took to fund his businesses. As The Guardian reported, Rishi was forced to explain details about how he managed his family's fortune, which is said to total ?730 million.

How does Rishi Sunak earn his money?

As per a report in Mint, Rishi Sunak's salary when he was Chancellor was ?151,649, and if he becomes UK PM, he would be earning even more.

Before entering politics, Sunak was a partner at two highly profitable hedge funds and from 2001 to 2004, he was an analyst for the investment bank, Goldman Sachs. According to The Times(opens in a new tab), Sunak was a multi-millionaire in his mid-twenties.

However, most of his wealth is from his marriage to Akshata Murthy, who owns a 0.93% stake in IT giant Infosys, the report mentioned.
