Meet The Three Next-gen Tatas Who Have Joined Chairman Ratan Tata On Tata Trust's Board

In what is being seen as a big move towards developing the next generation of leaders at the 154 years old Tata group, three millennials have been inducted into the board of a Tata philanthropic organization for the first time.

Noel Tata¡¯s children--30-year-old Neville, 37-year-old Leah and 34-year-old Maya--have been appointed as trustees of Tata Medical Center Trust (TMCT), which manages a cancer care hospital in Kolkata. The hospital was inaugurated by Ratan Tata in May 2011, whereas TMCT was set up in 2005 with a Rs 500 crore endowment from Tata Trusts¡¯ flagship foundation, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.

The appointments of Noel Tata¡¯s children were approved by Tata Trusts Chairman and Noel¡¯s older half-brother Mr Ratan Tata. At present, Leah works with Indian Hotels Company (Taj Hotels), Maya with Tata Digital (which recently launched Tata Neu app) and Neville with Trent (which owns Westside and Zudio stores), founded by his grandmother Simone, and currently led by his father Noel, as per TOI report.

With their induction to the board of TMCT, the number of trustees has been increased to six. Ratan Tata (84) is the Chairman, while Vijay Singh (74) and Mehli Mistry (62) are the other two trustees besides these three newly inducted ones.

For the uninitiated, Tata Sons is the holding company for Tata Group, and 66% of Tata Sons is owned by the Tata Trusts.

The report mentions that Ratan Tata¡¯s father was Naval Tata, who was adopted into the family by Navajbai and Sir Ratanji Tata. When he grew up, Naval Tata married Soonoo Commissariat with whom he had two sons ¨C the younger was named Jimmy and the older one was named after his father, Ratan.

Then, Naval and Soonoo separated and Naval later married Simone Dunoyer, a Swiss national who he supposedly met when she was travelling to India. Noel Tata is Simone and Naval Tata¡¯s son and, so, Ratan Tata's half brother. Noel Tata married Aloo Mistry, Cyrus Mistry's sister, and they have three children ¨C Leah, Maya and Neville.

More About Maya, Neville & Leah Tata

37-year-old Leah Tata, who studied at Jai Hind College, Mumbai, and then at IE Business School, Madrid, joined Indian Hotels Company in 2007. According to her LinkedIn profile, she did a master's in marketing from the institute in Spain. Currently, she is part of the company¡¯s real estate and development team.

Her younger sister Maya Tata, 34, is an alumna of the University of Warwick and Bayes Business School, both in the UK, and is working with Tata Digital after a stint in Tata Capital.

30-year-old Neville Tata, who is also from Bayes Business School, joined Trent, a company founded by his grandmother Simone Tata, in 2016. Currently, a business manager, Neville leads operations for Zudio stores across west and south India. Neville married Manasi Kirloskar, daughter of eminent industrialist Vikram Kirloskar, in 2019 and they have a son Jamshet.

According to senior officials, all three are quiet and do not flaunt their names or contacts, as per TOI. An official said, ¡°Their father has given clear instructions to their respective organisations that they be treated as regular employees.¡±
