Tata Motors is set to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India in the next couple of years. At the start of this trend was Tata Nexon EV, the company¡¯s first long range EV. A recent update by a top executive of the company now hints that this range is about to get even better.
In an Instagram interaction with Overdrive, Tata Motors has revealed that the Tata Nexon could possibly get a range and performance boost in the coming months. The update was hinted at by Anand Kulkarni, Vehicle Line Director, Product Line Electric Vehicle Business (Passenger Cars).
As per Kulkarni, the range and performance boost will come through advancements in Tata¡¯s Ziptron technology that forms the base of the Nexon EV and all of its other electric cars. With such developments, Tata Motors will be able to enhance the performance of the battery right through OTA updates, as can be seen in the likes of Tesla.
Note that the Ziptron will also be the founding platform for all the electric cars by the company in the foreseeable future. While Tata is expected to bring in cars with better range than before, the platform will make sure that the performance indicators upon the launch of the car can always be enhanced further.
As present, Tata Nexon EV comes with a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that drives the motor at a maximum power of 123 PS and a peak torque of 245 Nm. Nexon EV claims an acceleration of 0 to 100 kmph in just 9.99 seconds.
As for the highlights, the Nexon EV is the most affordable electric SUV in the country at present. It claims an ARAI-rated range of 312 km and carries many highlights over the fossil fuel model.
Tata Nexon EV also scored high on safety ratings, with its petrol counterpart being the first ever Indian car to have a perfect-five star safety rating by NCAP. You can read all about the safety test here.
