Tata Motors has not been shying away from making its electric vehicles plans public. Having earlier announced a total of five electric cars for the Indian market within the next 18 months, it is now gunning for a December release for the first electric car in the list. Tata Nexon electric will be marking its debut in December this year.
It's not the company¡¯s first electric car ever, as Tata Tigor and Tiago EV have already been plying on the Indian roads. These, however, had strictly been restricted to use by government officials until recently, when Tata announced the availability of the Tigor EV for the general public. Tata Nexon EV will follow suit, as an electric car available for purchase by individuals in the Indian market.
The confirmation for the Tata Nexon EV comes as the company has started sending invites for the media drive of the electric car, scheduled for December 16. Post its debut during the media drives, the electric car is expected to be launched at the upcoming Auto Expo in February next year.
Interestingly, the Nexon EV will also mark the debut of the company¡¯s Ziptron electric powertrain, which is poised to form the architecture for all of the upcoming electric cars by Tata Motors. The platform will use a 300V-plus permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and will support different driving modes for varied performances of the vehicle.

Tata Motors has already started advertising the Nexon EV too. In a series of videos with Milind Soman?and his wife Ankita Konwa, the Nexon EV is shown traversing the landscapes of Leh and Ladakh. The video showcases the extended range of the electric car and the ease of charging it through a 15 Amp point. In addition, a dedicated app for the EV is also showcased, which displays information like the distance covered, charge left, driving performance and more to the owner.
Being one of the handfuls of indigenous companies working on electric vehicles, Tata Motors has already forayed deep into the EV ecosystem. In addition to its electric cars, the company is also establishing a workable EV charging network across regions in the country. At this pace, as the era of electric vehicles dawns in India, Tata Motors is set to bag a peak position in the space.
