In our society, when a woman is sexually assaulted, it¡¯s somehow her fault. She was out late at night, she had had a few drinks or ¡ª and this one¡¯s the kicker ¡ª she was wearing the wrong clothes, so what did she expect? Who can blame the guy for assaulting her if she was dressed that way? She practically asked for it.?
Tired of this victim-blaming mindset, Katherine Cambareri, a photography student at Arcadia University, did a photography project called Well, What Were You Wearing? to expose society's hypocrisy.
The series of photographs shows us how unfair it is to blame women for wearing revealing clothes when they were assaulted, when thousands of women are assaulted while they are wearing modest clothes as well.
¡°Sexual assault only ever occurs because one person decides to assault another person, and for no other reason,¡± says Cambareri.
