The film 12th Fail tells the story of Manoj Kumar played by Vikrant Massey, an IPS officer who struggled his entire life to make ends meet before working his way up the ladder to become the person he wanted to be. In the same way that we say that "a woman is the reason behind every man's success," we can also add that "it takes a woman, friends, family, and some unexpected people to be there for you."
Therefore, let's look at the friends, girlfriend, and family who supported Manoj in his quest to become an IPS in the film!
His mom was nothing less than a hero in his life. From struggling to feed her family to hiding her problems, she did everything to support her son. There is a scene when an unsuccessful Manoj returns to his village and gets to know the passing of his dadi. In a tender moment, his mother is massaging his head with oil and telling him that everything is under control. He calls her out and says, "Bas kar maa, aur kitna jhooth bolegi". This emotional scene is heart-wrenching and beautiful at the same time.?
She did not want her grandkid to give in to anyone who encouraged corruption because she was against traitors. She gave Manoj the money she had saved up so he could focus on his examinations. What's more she even took a promise from the rest of the family to not inform Manoj of her passing as she didn't want him to lose focus from his goal of becoming an IPS officer.
It was him who brought Manoj to Delhi. He was studying for the police services despite his desire to work in the television sector due to pressure from his father. He provided Manoj with accommodation during his early days and was really happy when Manoj made it through the interview stage. However, he did have his own share of grays. In a fit of jealousy, he tried to wreak havoc in Manoj's life by revealing about his and Shraddha's affair to her family. Nonetheless, he soon realized his folly and mends his broken friendship with Manoj.
The best of them all!? He used to help students in understanding what UPSC is and he got Manoj his first job in Delhi. As a candidate, he himself failed even in his sixth try. Rather than giving up, he opened a tea shop named "Restart." He was the one who guided Manoj through each step of his preparation and showed him the value of perseverance from the beginning to the conclusion.
?Although he did not appear frequently in the film, he undoubtedly provided Manoj with a strong foundation and unlimited support. In order to prepare, he got him his first book. When they ran out of money, he set up a makeshift rickshaw so they could make some cash. Just to improve the financial situation of his family, he also moved to another village.??
Manoj states at the end that he would not have learned the value of being honest if DSP Dushyant had not motivated him. Manoj understood and always followed DSP's lead after he told him that the only way to become a decent officer is to quit cheating, even when it comes to exams.
Well, the woman behind it all! Manoj was given the drive and inspiration he needed by Shraddha, his then-lover and now-wife. She was always there, helping him appreciate the importance of dedicating many hours to his learning and even offering to provide financial support.?
On returning for a while from his visit in Delhi, Manoj's close friend was relieved to see him but reluctant to break the news of his grandmother's passing. In the film's end, he hurried over to Manoj's mother and shouted, "Mera manoj IPS ban gaya," when he received the call about Manoj passing his interview.
