According to Punjab Police ADGP Pramod Ban, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi admitted on Thursday that he was the mastermind behind Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala's murder and had been planning it since last August.
"The plan to carry out the killing was being hatched since August last year. According to our information, recce was done thrice. In January, too, a different group of shooters had come to kill Moosewala but could not do so," the ADGP said.
Ban, also the head of the Anti-Gangster Task Force, said another accused, Baldev alias Nikku, was arrested on Thursday.
"We had recently arrested Lawrence Bishnoi in the case, and his remand was extended till June 27. He has admitted that he was the mastermind (in Moosewala¡¯s killing)," Ban told reporters.
The ADGP added that Lawrence hatched the conspiracy with Canada-based gangster Goldy, besides Sachin Bishnoi, alias Thapan, and Lawrence¡¯s younger brother Anmol Bishnoi.
Bishnoi, who confirmed that he was the mastermind behind Moose Wala's murder, had arranged fake passports for his brother and a close aide.?Using the passports, they were sent abroad to coordinate the killing without being caught.?
¡°Lawrence arranged Sachin and Anmol¡¯s escape from the country on fake passports in April. Later, Sachin, in a media interview, falsely claimed he was among the shooters. This was done to mislead the police so that the actual culprits would get time to escape.¡±, said ADGP.?
Reports claim that Lawrence Bishnoi was able to make calls to Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar from Tihar jail.?
A report in The Print claims that Bishnoi used apps like Signal and Wickr Me to contact and get updates about the big plan.
Everyone was also keeping close track of Moose Wala¡¯s social media activities.
