Comedian Vir Das who has been in a soup of controversy for the longest time now has announced that he has received a ¡®huge acting opportunity'. Vir whose Bangalore shows were cancelled at the last minute lately has now decided to push the dates of his November gigs so that he can focus on his acting project.
Vir wrote, ¡°This is a bittersweet one. I announced four days ago¡I¡¯d been auditioning for a thing for months and I¡¯ve gotten a huge acting opportunity. Everyone in this beast gathers for some prep in Nov. I¡¯m gonna have to push November gigs. Announcement comes soon & I think you¡¯ll understand why. I¡¯ll see you on the new live dates, and you¡¯ll see me on screen like you¡¯ve never seen me before¡..with some folks you¡¯ve seen before?¡±
It was just a few days before, that his shows in Bangalore were cancelled after a protest was alleged near the venue by members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. Ramesh Shinde, the right-wing group's national spokesperson, warned that more protests would be organised against Das' future shows. ¡°If we don't protest against his statement, it would mean we support what he said,¡± PTI quoted him as saying.
Vir has been accused of defaming India at the international level and was asked to apologise which shall lead to an end of all chaos. Last Thursday, soon after his show in Bengaluru was cancelled; Vir on Instagram said the decision was due to ¡°unavoidable circumstances¡±. He also tweeted, "I'm an artist. I shouldn't be on the news. Many assumptions are made about my content. I trust my art and my audience to speak for me. #TrustTheAudience.¡±
He fell into legal trouble after the Cuffe Parade police registered an FIR last week based on a complaint lodged by renowned theatre producer Ashvin Gidwani. He has alleged that 12 jokes from Vir's much-lauded Netflix special, For India show, were copied from the script of an earlier show produced by him and performed by Das.
