In a latest development, Aquaman actress Amber Heard's request for a new trial in the Johnny Depp defamation case has been rejected by a Virginia judge.?
Actress Amber Heard's lawyers cited multiple factors and argued that a wrong juror took the chair during the court proceedings, which had compromised the verdict announced on June 1.?
The judge also noted that both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's lawyers had questioned and accepted the participating jurors at the beginning of the high-profile televised defamation trial.?
After a six-week long bitter-emotional trial, the jury found Johnny Depp and Amber Heard liable for defamation. However, the jury sided more strongly with the onscreen Jack sparrow of the Pirates of the Caribbean star in the defamation case that had grabbed attention worldwide.?
According to the verdict, Amber Heard is required to pay Johnny Depp over $10 million in compensation for damages after the jury ruled in favour of her ex-husband, who sued the actress for defaming him when she called herself a "public figure representing domestic abuse" in her infamous op-ed published in The Washington Post.?
While the?piece did not mention Johnny Depp's name,?the actor claimed the op-ed ruined his already diminishing career. He also claimed that he was the one and not Amber Heard, who was abused in the relationship.
On the other hand, the 36-year-old actress, who had counter-sued Johnny Depp claiming her ex-husband Depp had defamed her when his lawyer called her accusations a 'hoax', was awarded $2 million.
