After months of speculations, Netflix has finally announced a sequel to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut web series Heeramandi, which made a lot of buzz last month. Heeramandi Season 2 was announced at a vibrant event on Carter Road in Mumbai, featuring a flash mob of 100 dancers in dazzling anarkalis and ghungroos, performing to songs from the series.?
As the OTT platform shared a glimpse of the event, it made the official announcement by writing in the caption,?"Mehfil phir se jamegi, Heeramandi: Season 2 jo aayega".?
In case you are wondering what will happen in the next season since Aditi Rao Hydari's character aka?Bibbojaan?is no more, the ace filmmaker had earlier revealed to Variety in an interview that the second season will not be set in Lahore but in Mumbai or Kolkata. Bhansali said, "In Heeramandi 2, the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the Partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs. So that¡¯s the second season we are planning, let¡¯s see where it goes."
Bhansali had earlier said that the process of making this eight-part series was so taxing that he wouldn't want to do it again. "We have made it, I have enjoyed making it, and I am thankful to God that we made it. It was a very difficult project. Nobody else will ever be able to make Heeramandi again, nor will I be able to make it again, because it happens once." Bhansali has thus clarified that there won't be a?Heeramandi?sequel.
