Is Bollywood losing its originality? Amid a plethora of South Indian remakes, once again the question has been raised again after a Kolkatta-based filmmaker Akash Chatterjee has accused T-series, the makers of Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D¡¯Souza¡¯s Mister Mummy of stealing his script and idea. Here's what happened.?
"We had a detailed discussion with Tseries in 2020 regarding my film Pet se and they had agreed to Co Produce Later they come up with their shit version(without any logic) of my film.My Story and concept is registered with SWA, Mumbai," the filmmaker wrote.
The photo he shared shows?Ayushmann Khurrana in the titular role in Pet Se. He said that he wanted to cast him and had made a mock poster. The idea of his film was about a man?who gets pregnant mysteriously.
He made the revelation hours after Mister Mummy trailer was released. The trailer of the movie shows Riteish essaying the role of a?pregnant man while Mahesh Manjrekar plays doctor.?The film is directed by Shaad Ali, it is backed by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series, Krishna Kumar, Ali and Siva Ananth.
Akash has stated that he had submitted the script of Pet Se to the Screenplay Writers' Association and will take legal action if necessary. He doesn't want money but the due credit for his story. He has already spoken to his lawyer who is co-incidentally the co-writer of the movie.
This isn't the first time that T-series has been accused of copying. Earlier, a Gujarati singer had slammed the makers of?Bhuj: The Pride of India for copying his song.
Lashing out at the makers and T-Series, Arvind Vegda took to Twitter to write,?"Why every time #Bollywood @TSeries @MikaSingh on the pretext of #remix Steals the original creation and allegedly slaps own banner and label and releases the song. Feeling so disappointed and low that despite the film being based on our #Gujarat and #Bhuj."
"They failed to recognise a Gujarati who has not only devoted his TIME, STRENGTH, MONEY, PATIENCE but also BLOOD.....! WHY WHY WHY ? WHY ALWAYS AND AGAIN ?????"
In another tweet, he wrote, "At least you @TSeries should have courage and courtesy to acknowledge the regional artists and inspiration who have contributed a lot more than just mere mixing the original song...shame @TSeries."??
