Unlike many Bollywood celebrities, Tamil actor Siddharth who is popular for his role in Rang De Basanti, mostly voices out his opinion unabashedly on issues that concern the nation.
When the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act was passed, he was one of the few celebs who raised their voice. He had to bear the repercussions as well.?
Just yesterday, he had tweeted that he was receiving threat tweets for himself and his loved ones on Twitter from the handles that are followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.?
One day after he participated in the protests, an FIR has been lodged against him and 599 others who have reportedly been booked by the Chennai Police for participating in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens.
Among the 600 people against whom the FIR has been lodged, names of singer TM Krishna and MP Thirumavalavanand Americai Narayanan are also there. These people are accused of "unlawful assembly" and "staging protest" defying orders at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai on Thursday.?
"Police has filed a case against 600 protesters, including Actor Siddharth, musician TM Krishna, MP Thirumavalavan & MH Jawahirullah, who gathered at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai yesterday to protest against #CitizenshipAct,¡± reads a tweet on ANI.
Stating the reason for the FIR, the news agency added in another tweet, ¡°The case has been filed as Chennai Police had revoked permission for the protest to be held against #CitizenshipAct in Valluvar Kottam yesterday, still, the protest was held in Valluvar Kottam.¡±
Siddharth had earlier urged the citizens to register protest in a tweet. "Register your protest. Your voice MATTERS! Stand tall for our plurality and secularism. #India needs your voice.#CAA #NRC," he wrote.?
Meanwhile, according to reports, Parineeti Chopra who was the face of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign in Haryana has been removed as the brand ambassador after her tweet against CAA. However, nothing as of now can be confirmed or said to be true.
