There¡¯s a thing about superstardom ¨C with fame, hates comes naturally to you. While stars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have massive fan followings, there are some people who love to hate them. But Amitabh Bachchan, the Shahenshah of Bollywood, is different.
Amitabh Bachchan is hailed as the living legend of Bollywood. When he fell sick, 1.2 billion sent out prayers for him. On his birthday, he is flooded with messages from his fans. It was on this day that he started his journey in Bollywood with his debut film Saat Hindustani, the only black and white film he has worked in, and the film which got him his first National Award for the most promising role. Thereafter, he did films like Parwana, Anand, Guddi and Bombay To Goa among others. But success didn¡¯t come easy to Amitabh Bachchan.
Zanzeer, which was rejected by actors including Raaj Kumar, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar, brought him success in the industry. The movie that gave birth to the ¡®Angry young man¡¯ was a blockbuster. With films like Deewar, Trishul, Kaalia, Amar Akbar Anthony, Chupke Chupke and Silsila, he was ruling the hearts of the audiences.
He has had his shares of ups and downs too. From health scare to hitting the rock bottom financially, Amitabh Bachchan has seen it all. But he rose up each time and shone bright like a diamond, just like the meaning of his name -- ¡°the light that will never die¡±.
¡®In the year 2000, when the entire world was celebrating the new century, I was celebrating my disastrous fortune. There were no films, no money, no company, a million legal cases against and the tax authorities had put notice of recovery on my home,¡± said Amitabh Bachchan talking about the financial crisis in his life when he had almost lost everything he had.
It all happened after Miss World Pageant in 1996 organized by the ABCL company had failed, and Bachchan was left with no money and all his properties were mortgaged. And then, Yash Raj offered him Mohabattein, a blockbuster movie that brought his career back on track. He did many commercials and shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati, through which he sustained and also paid off a debt of Rs 90 crores reportedly.
