Filmmaker SS Rajamouli¡¯s magnum opus RRR has gone far beyond boundaries and cultures. As the film travels around the globe, Rajamouli is travelling too. RRR recently saw an overseas release due to which Rajamouli is on wheels. He is surprised by the unbelievable response that the international box office is giving him.
In a recent interview with Empire, Rajamouli said, ¡°India has a huge diaspora around the world, and I thought the film would do good wherever Indian audiences were. But then the reception started coming from Westerners. I didn¡¯t expect any of this,¡± The filmmaker further revealed what he thinks to be the reason for RRR's success and said, ¡°RRR¡¯s unapologetic action sequences; its unapologetic heroism.¡±
¡°We have Indians spread across the world and when we make films, we make them for Indians, including the diaspora. Baahubali was the same. The additional mileage we got for Baahubali was in Japan. It did good to an extent. Even though I believed my stories can go beyond the borders of my states, I never thought they will go beyond the borders of India. So when Baahubali did well in Japan, I thought maybe our sensibilities are similar.¡±
As per a report by Deadline, SS Rajamouli was signed by the American talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which is touted as a major coup for the agency considering the high demand for the filmmaker in the west. RRR which earned over Rs 1000 crores globally is the only non-English-language film to trend globally on Netflix for 10 consecutive weeks. Back then, Don¡¯t Look Up director Adam McKay had pledged support to RRR to get it nominated in the Best Pictures category at the Academy Awards.
He wrote, "This is a travesty. But let¡¯s make sure it gets a best picture nom. Can we do a screening at the Rose Bowl? (How amazing would that be?) #RRR.¡± RRR was made on a budget of approx. Rs. 300 crores and starred Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in lead.
