Comedian Matt Rife has faced a wave of criticism in response to his new Netflix show Natural Selection, which many fans have described as perpetuating 'sexist' bias and 'misogynistic' portrayals.
Matt is seen introducing the stand-up special, which was launched on the streaming site last week, with a segment about Washington DC, where the special was filmed, and the differences between "ratchet" Baltimore and "beautiful" Maryland.
He goes on to say: "I've only been to Baltimore one time, and the hostess who seats you had a black eye."?Matt then goes on to talk about "crystal girls" and ladies who blame their "poor decision-making skills" on astrology.
Whereas astrology was historically a male-dominated field, today's astrological society is quite diverse, yet especially valued by women.?
"Metaphysics, astrology, and tarot have recently exploded because historically, this was a realm where witchy women could have access to their own independence that was never defined by, or tied to, a male... "Astrology has a direct correlation with sexism," expert astrologer Desiree Roby Antila revealed to Stylecaster.
Matt faced a barrage of criticism after excerpts from the performance began to circulate on social media.?
Drew Afualo, a TikTok celebrity known for her feminist advocacy, answered in a video, saying, "In case anyone's curious, no I'm not f*cking surprised."
Matt went on to say that during his live presentations, the audience was evenly split between men and women, explaining, "It's couples coming out. It's a bunch of males arriving."
"And one of the things I wanted to address in this special was showing people that, despite what you think about me online, I don't pander to women in my career."
"I would argue this special is way more for guys."
"I don't really adhere to this whole sensitivity rumor in the comedy world that you can't say anything anymore," the comedian said when asked about his concern of offending specific people. That's nonsense.
"You are free to speak whatever you want. You must now prepare for the consequences.
"But at the end of the day, it all comes down to how do you sleep at night?"
