After facing massive backlash for a few days, perfume brand?Layer'r Shot has finally issued an apology for its controversial advertising campaign that many, including Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, said promoted "rape mentality."
In a statement, the perfume brand said, "This is with reference to our recent two TV advertisements of Layer'r SHOT on various broadcasting platforms. We, the brand Layer'r SHOT would like to inform one and all that only after due & mandatory approvals, we have aired the advertisements, wherein, we never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments or feelings or outrage any women's modesty or promote any sort of culture, as wrongly perceived by some."
The statement that has been posted on social media added, "However, we sincerely apologise for the advertisements that consequentially caused rage amongst individuals & several communities and beg their pardon. Most importantly, we have voluntarily informed all our media partners to stop the telecast/broadcasting of both the TV advertisements from 4th June with immediate effect".
"Wrongly perceived???? Wow. Nice," wrote another one.
Another user wrote, "'as wrongly perceived by some' lmao. if you¡¯re still blaming others while 'apologising', it¡¯s not an apology. smh."
Another comment read, "Your pathetic ad was perceived exactly as you'd indented it to be ... a sorry double entendre for molestation/rape. Now pls take this lame excuse of an apology & crawl back under the rock you've been living under."
