To demonstrate her arithmetic talent, she travelled across various countries in the world. At the University of California, Berkeley, she left professor Arthur Jensen perplexed after calculating the cube root of 61,629,875 and the seventh root of 170,859,37 before Jensen could even copy them down in his notebook.
In 1977, at the Southern Methodist University, she calculated the 23rd root of a 201-digit number in mere 50 seconds. She was also hailed as mental calculator.
Born on November 4, 1929, Shakuntala Devi breathed her last on April 21, 2013. She is no more between us, but her story remains an inspiring one. And so, a biopic on the mathematics genius is in the works and Vidya Balan has been roped in to play the role.

She was truly someone who embraced her individuality, had a strong feminist voice and braved many a naysayer to reach the pinnacle of success. But what truly fascinates me is that you wouldn't normally associate a fun person with math... and she completely turns that perception on its head,¡± said Vidya Balan.

¡°How incredible that The Math Genius, The Human Computer, was a small-town Indian girl, who took the world by storm,¡± she added. The movie will be produced by Vikram Malhotra-led Abundantia Entertainment. Vidya has worked with Vikram in Kahaani. Anu Menon of London, Paris, New York fame will direct the movie. The film is set to release in 2020.
