Amaran, which hit the screens on October 31, has received rave reviews from the audience and proved to be a gamechanger for Sivakarthikeyan. The biographical drama is based on the life of? the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, the head of the regiment Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and covers nearly all aspects of his life. Major portions of Amaran are adapted from a segment of the book IndiaĄ¯s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes. Mukund Vardarajan was born into a Tamil-speaking family in Chennai on April 12, 1983. His grandfather had served in the army and Mukund followed in his footsteps when he joined the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai after completing his education. Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to the 22 Rajput Regiment in 2006.
In 2008, nearly two years later, he was promoted to the rank of Captain. His dedication and selfless attitude paved the way for more professional success. He was promoted to the rank of Major in 2012. Just two years later, he spearheaded? an operation in Shopian, Kashmir , to eliminate three suspected militants who were hiding in a residential area. Mukund and his team eliminated the terrorists after an intense showdown and averted a catastrophe. The braveheart, however, sustained serious injuries during the operation and eventually succumbed to them.?
Major Mukund was? posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra in 2014 to honour his bravery and sacrifice. Moreover, a bust of the braveheart was unveiled in 2015 to honour his memory. It is on display at the Officers Training Academy.?
Mukund Varadarajan first met Indhu Rebecca Varghese, who hailed from a Malayali family,? when they were in college. The two dated for a few years before tying the knot in 2009. A couple welcomed a daughter Mukund a couple of years later, adding a new dimension to their relationship. However, tragedy struck the family when Mukund was martyred in 2014. Post his death, Indhu famously asked the country to celebrate MukundĄ¯s legacy and not focus on her sorrow.?
