A photograph of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar walking from his dressing room to the pitch for his final Test match at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium has won the Picture Of The Year award for 2013.The photo was taken by 41-year-old photojournalist Atul Kamble and published in Mid Day. The Mumbai journalist received the award at the fourth annual MFI-Yes Bank National Press Photo Contest in 2014.
The Mumbai photojournalist captured the historic moment in November 2013 when the master blaster played his farewell Test innings, with his admirers jostling to get a picture.?
According to IANS, the picture was unanimously selected as the winner from over 8,000 images submitted by more than 240 photojournalists across India, earning Kamble Rs 75,000 in prize money. The image was also named the best in the sports category.?
The jury included Pablo Batholomew, Arko Datta, and Rafeeq Ellias, and the awards were presented in the presence of Yes Bank CEO and managing director Rana Kapoor on Wednesday evening.They will receive cash rewards of Rs.50,000, Rs.30,000, and Rs.20,000.?
