This article was supposed to be out in the morning, but clearly due to multiple reasons, there were some setbacks known as alcohol and hangovers. If you have the misfortune of reading this while surrounded by empty cans of energy drinks and spilled black coffee, you feel the pain of coming into work on the first day of the year.?
It is a special form of punishment given to those who probably partied hard all year long, and so the universe decided to give them a sort of cosmic karma or something. My eyes burn as I type in every word because I¡¯m one of the people who is living through this hell right about now.?
After cursing the hell out of my flatmate who was literally going to sleep drunk AF when I was leaving for work half dead, I somehow managed to gather the courage to board my cab. The cab driver didn¡¯t seem too happy to be working today either, and now there were two of us feeling the same emotion. In between replying to¡®Happy new year¡¯?texts, I was drifting off to sleep but the fact that I was already running late was constantly eating away at me.?
Before I could take another thirty-second long nap, the bumpy roads of Delhi informed me that I might as well day dream about the new year. Unfortunately, I do not have a 2020 vision. Sorry, not sorry.?
Hungover, sleep-deprived and cold, everyone on the road seemed like they could fall asleep any second now. Empathising with their agony of being out of their cosy beds, I cracked open my can of energy drink and took a deep breath which was my way of already giving in to the rest of the day.
Entering office was another BT altogether - Empty desks, a dead environment and pin drop silence welcomed me into the never-ending world of cubicles. As I spotted a few colleagues roaming around like zombies like it was the episode of GoT where the White Walkers were first introduced, settling down at my desk felt like this was going to be the worst day to have as the first one of the year.?
Within the first five minutes, my desk-neighbour whined about being here and all I could say was, ¡°Same, sister. Same.¡±?
To make matters worse, I was informed that the cafeteria is going to be closed today and the only thing I was kind of looking forward to today (read: food) was snatched away from me. A good meal always cures a bad hangover but it looked like God had other plans for me. Placing an order from outside would take eons for the food to reach me, and today I just don't have that kind of patience.
You know every office has one of those people who go to sleep by 10:00 PM even on new year¡¯s eve and are fresh as a blooming flower the next day. Yeah, screw those people because they make you look like you¡¯re suddenly incompetent for this one whole day. The guy who sits opposite to me belongs to that group of people and if I wasn¡¯t having a splitting headache already, he added on to my pain. His chirpiness and how the new year is starting out so fresh for him made me want to strangle him with my bare hands, but well, my new year resolution is to be a better person. LOL.
Two bottles of water later, I felt hydrated enough to step out for some fresh air but as soon as I came face to face with sunlight, I immediately regretted getting up from my desk at all. ¡°What is this life?¡± is the question that came to my mind and with God as my witness, I swear I was about to cry. So, I went back to my desk, daydreamed a little more and got back to writing this.?
