There is literally no feeling worse than that of being ghosted or stuck in a situationship unable to take things to the next level. At least once in our lives, we have all dealt with the disappointing realities of modern dating and thought of just giving up. Even if your reactions have not been that extreme, you must have felt the urge to take a break from putting yourself out there and relax on your own or with your close friends. Given the complexities of dating in this day and age, a new trend called 'Boysober' is on the rise on the internet among single folk who are all fed up with modern dating.

The term was first coined by comedian Hope Woodard and soon went viral on the internet since it resonated with so many young people. While 'boysober' can be misconstrued to only pertain to women, in actuality, it is a gender-neutral term encouraging all young single people to take a break from not only dating and the situationships resulting from it but also from exes, toxic relationships and hook-ups.
The 'boysober' trend is all about self-love and breaking the cycle of toxic and unfulfilling relationships. Rather than putting their energy towards finding a partner, the trend revolves around how singles should rather work to discover themselves, heal from the trauma of past relationships and learn to enjoy their own company.
While the terminology may be new, the concept is not. The 'boysober' trend is preaching the age-old wisdom of the importance of self-love in romantic relationships. If you are exhausted from going on yet another bad date, take a break and focus on some much-needed self-care by not letting anyone undeserving of love occupy space in your brain and heart.
