Delhi woke up to yet another day of dense fog on Wednesday morning, with near-zero visibility in many parts of the national capital.
The temperature in the national capital dropped to almost seven degrees and the reduced visibility has also affected flight and train operations to and from Delhi.
As per information sourced from the Delhi Airport FIDS (Flight Information Display System) the Delhi airport is facing delays affecting approximately 110 flights, both (domestic and international) arrivals and departures, due to dense fog. 28 International departure flights, 15 International arrival flights, 42 Domestic departure flights and 25 Domestic Arrival were affected as of 8:30 AM on Wednesday morning
The Delhi Airport Authority has issued an advisory stating that while landing and takeoffs continue, flights not complaint with CAT III (category III) standards may face disruptions.
"While landings and take offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III complaint may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," the Delhi airport said in a social media post.
CAT III refers to a type of Instrument landing system that allows the flights to land in low visibility conditions such as fog, snow and rain.
About 25 trains scheduled for arrival at Delhi railway stations are running late due to fog.
An orange alert was issued by the Met department across the city at 8 am as visibility in many parts remained around 50 metres.
Trains are running late and there could be flight delays and cancellations, according to an official.
Among the delayed trains, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express and Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express are running late by as much as five hours.
According to IMD colour codes, ¡®yellow' alert calls for authorities to be aware, an ¡®orange' alert calls for them to remain prepared, while ¡®red' alert calls for most vigil and action.
The IMD had said that dense to very dense fog is likely to continue over Northwest India and parts of Central India during the next three-four days.
¡°Dense fog conditions are very likely to continue in early hours/morning hours in isolated pockets over Odisha, Uttarakhand on Wednesday and Thursday over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and Sunday and over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during Wednesday-Sunday,¡± it said on Tuesday.
The IMD also predicted that a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from Saturday.
