In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old girl was found dead on Velsao beach in South Goa on Thursday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Diya Naik, was found with multiple stab injuries on the neck and other parts of the body with a sharp object.
Diya, a native of New Vaddem had been missing from Wednesday evening.?
Her body was found lying in the bushes along the Dando beach in Velsao.
According to Diya's mother, her daughter was last seen on Wednesday afternoon when she had come to the family's grocery store with her lunch.
She told the police that Diya was in a relationship with one Kishan Kalangutkar, but it was almost over.
Based on this, the police then traced Kalangutkar in Vasco and he was arrested on Thursday.
"The accused was in love with the young woman, who was studying in a college, and had travelled to the beach with her on Wednesday," Superintendent of Police (South) Abhishek Dhania said.
The accused was upset with the woman after she told him that she did not want to continue the relationship with him, he said.
"Angry with her, the accused stabbed the victim multiple times, killing her on the spot and later dumped her body in the bushes located along the beach," Dhania added.
After finding the body, the Vasco police began a probe and nabbed the accused within 24 hours, he said.
On Monday police in Bicholim had arrested a man from UP for the murder of his wife who was found dead in their rented house at Vathadev Sarvan.
The accused, Baliram Kumar Mhato, a native of Bihar had fled Goa with their minor daughter after murdering his wife Shobhadevi.
Mhato was traced to Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, where he was arrested while about to board a Bihar-bound train.
According to the police, Mhato who was an alcoholic used to assault Shobhadevi over petty issues.
On Monday, the duo had fought over the purchase of a new mobile phone and in a fit of rage, Mhato killed Shobhadevi by strangling her.
