The Hindu Mahasabha, the right-wing fringe outfit founded by Veer Savarkar, and best known for its role in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi has been in the news off late for several reasons.
Last week, as China and the rest of the world, were grappling to find a cure for the Coronavirus outbreak, the Hindu Mahasabha had come up with a solution.
Swami Chakrapani, the president of Hindu Mahasabha had claimed that consuming cow urine and cow dung will stop the effect of infectious coronavirus.
"Consuming cow urine and cow dung will stop the effect of infectious coronavirus. A person who chants Om Namah Shivay and applies cow dung on the body will be saved. A special yagna ritual will soon be performed to kill coronavirus," said Chakrapani.?
Now Chakrapani is back, this time with an even more ludicrous suggestion.
He has demanded a ban on the sale of meat in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak and has written to the Director General of the World Health Organisation for that.
"I urge to you to promulgate advisory for the Health Departments of all the governments of the world to ban the sale and consumption of animal meat altogether. Not only this, practice of killing animals for their meat is an unethical inhuman act, but it has brought mankind to brink of worldwide spread of deadly diseases," Chakrapani said in the letter dated February 6.
This is not the first time Chakrapani has found links between meat consumption and disasters. In 2018 he had claimed the flood of the century in Kerala was the result of beef consumption. He had also appealed to people not to donate money for Kerala flood relief as "It is sin to rescue beef eaters, those who don't kill animals should be helped".
The outfit which venerates Gandhi-killer Nathuram Godse as an icon and patriot had last week announced that it will felicitate the 17-year-old who was arrested by the Delhi Police after he opened fire at students protesting against the CAA outside Jamia.
Calling him a "true nationalist like Nathuram Godse" Hindu Mahasabha spokesperson Ashok Pandey said the organization is "proud of the boy, who attempted to silence the anti-national activities on Jamia campus by giving the students there 'instant?azadi'."
The outfit had also pledged to bear the legal aid to the accused.
He also justified brandishing a gun to "punish anti-national activities" and said that even the law makes a distinction between cold-blooded murder and someone eliminated in the best interest of the country.
