On Friday, Shankar Mishra, the banking executive accused of urinating on a woman passenger on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi, denied the allegation in a Delhi court.
During the hearing, in a complete U-turn, Mishra claimed that the 70-year-old woman had urinated on herself.?
"I did not urinate on complainant. The complainant woman's seat was blocked. It wasn't possible for him (Mishra) to go there. The woman has a problem of incontinence. She urinated on herself. She is a Kathak dancer, 80% of kathak dancers have this issue," Shankar Mishra's counsel told the Delhi court.?
Mishra is currently in judicial custody after his arrest last week, when a team of four police officials from Delhi held Mishra in Bengaluru, TOI reported.?
The shocking claim by Shankar Mishra comes after the sessions court issued a notice based on Delhi Police's request to gain his custody for questioning.
He had been sent to 14-day judicial remand on Saturday by a court that turned down the police's request for custody.?
However, a judge denied Mishra's request for bail four days later and termed the accusations against him "utterly disgusting and repulsive".?
"The alleged act in itself is sufficient to outrage the modesty of any woman. The egregious conduct of the accused has shocked the civic consciousness and needs to be deprecated," the judge said on Wednesday.?
According to an NDTV report, the judge made the said comment while scolding him for being on the run until a non-bailable warrant was issued.?
During the bail hearing, Mishra's lawyers did not refer to his latest claim of not urinating on the woman.?
They had contended that his act "was not driven by sexual desire nor aimed at outraging the complainant's modesty".?
Moreover, at the same hearing, the woman who complained against Mishra said she was being intimidated by those close to the accused.?
"I'm regularly receiving messages, threatening me. The accused's father sent me a message and said 'karma will hit you' and then deleted the message. They're sending me messages and deleting them. This needs to stop," her lawyers said.?
Mishra was arrested last week after the accusations became public almost a month after the incident that occurred on November 26.?
On the run from authorities for days, the executive was sacked by US banking giant Wells Fargo.?
"Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behaviour and we find these individual has been terminated from Wells Fargo," the company said in a statement.?
Mishra was allegedly drunk during the journey in late November when he allegedly exposed himself and urinated on the woman seated in the business class. The woman said the crew coerced her into accepting an apology from the man and later complained to N Chandrasekaran, chairperson of the Tata Group, which owns Air India.? ?
