National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Wednesday met residents of Maujpur of Delhi, one of the worst affected areas in the ongoing violence to take stock of the situation there.?
Doval who was accompanied by some top officials of the Delhi Police that the cops had established peace in the national capital.Doval has been tasked with containing the violence, and will apprise the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) of the situation in Delhi.?
In his second visit to the district in 24 hours, Doval interacted with several locals and inquired about the situation there following the violence.?
"What has happened has happened. Inshallah, there will be complete peace here," Doval said as he walked through the mostly mixed neighbourhoods of northeast Delhi and met locals.He also listened to the complaints of the residents and reassured them that the cops are there for their safety.?
"The situation is totally under control. People are satisfied. I have confidence in law enforcement agencies. Police is doing its work" he said.?
Earlier in the day Doval had held a meeting with senior officials of the Delhi Police and took stock of the situation after communal violence killed 23 people since Monday,Doval held a meeting at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) along with the top brass of the Delhi Police.?
On late Tuesday night, Doval held a similar meeting with the top brass of the Delhi Police after violence swept through northeast Delhi.On Tuesday, he was accompanied by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and newly-appointed Special Commissioner S N Shrivastava. Shrivastava is believed to have been handpicked by Doval after Patnaik faced flak for failing to curb the spiralling violence in the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's visit.?
After his first visit to the violence-hit areas, Doval had said that there are enough forces on the ground and no one needs to fear.At least 22 people have been killed and over 200 injured in communal violence that broke out in northeast Delhi three days ago.?
The violence began on Monday after groups protesting against the CAA and those supporting it clashed with each other, leading to arson and vandalism in the area.Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh, Shiv Vihar are among the areas mainly affected by the riots.?
Calling the situation in northeast Delhi alarming, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Army should be called in as police is "unable" to establish control.?
