Imagine taking an auto ride and getting a bill amount that is a hundred times more than the cost of the vehicle! A man from Pune was left shocked after his Uber app showed a bill of Rs 3, 62,45,037 for his auto ride.
"How come a bill of ?3Cr plus for an auto ride? It was not a chartered airplane for God¡¯s sake," an X user, Deepansh Pratap wrote.
It was not just Pratap who was shocked by the bill. It even left the auto driver worried, as he feared he may have to pay the amount to Uber if the customer didn't.
"It was embarrassing because the driver thought it would be billed to him if I didn¡¯t pay. He argued for 15 minutes in sun," Pratap wrote.
Responding to his post, Uber India asked Pratap to share his registered contact details via Direct Message to look into the matter.
While it is yet unclear if and how the matter has been resolved, this is how others on social media responded.
"Better buy the rickshaw and employ the driver instead of paying Rs 3 crore," one person suggested.
"Only our politicians can afford such an insane amount in cash," wrote another user.
This is the latest instance of Uber India asking users to pay obnoxious amounts for their auto rides, which should ideally cost less than Rs 100.
Recently, Deepak Tenguriya booked an auto ride through Uber India, which showed him a fare of Rs 62. But when Tenguriya reached his destination, the bill amount had shot up to Rs 7.66 crore.
In a similar case, Sriraj Nilesh from Bengaluru and his wife had booked an autorickshaw through the Uber app from KR Puram to Koramangala which would have cost them Rs 207. But after completion of the trip, they got a bill of Rs 1,03,11,055.
It seems like a technical glitch in the Uber App, but the company has publicly acknowledged anything yet.
