A Bengaluru man was left shocked after his Uber app showed that a trip from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to his home in HSR Layout would cost anywhere from Rs 1,931 to Rs 2,495.
A social media user Rajesh Bhattad shared the screenshot of the Uber app on X, which showed that an Uber Go trip to his home would cost him Rs 1,931, while it was Rs 1846 for Uber Go Sedan and Uber Premier. The fare further increased to Rs 2,495 for an Uber XL.
"The Uber pricing past midnight from Bengaluru Airport to HSR," Bhattad wrote.
It should be noted that the distance between the pick-up and drop location is less than 40 kms.
Bhattad ended the post by saying "Thank you BMTC," suggesting that he took a bus to reach home instead of the cab.
When another X user suggested that he should have taken the Vayu Vajra bus to HSR Layout which costs less than Rs 300 Bhattad said, he had done that.
"I took the same. 265 per person. Only challenge is getting another Uber for the last mile connectivity," he said.
After the post went viral, many others also joined the conversation and agreed that app-based cab fares have become unreasonably high.
Another person suggested that the fares would come down 30-50% if the pickup location of the cab is outside the Airport zone.
Last month the Karnataka Transport Department had introduced new rules, that among others have set a limit to the amount cabs can charge in peak hours and also set uniform rates for app-based cab aggregators like Ola and Uber as well as city taxis.
It allowed cabs booked between 12 am and 6 am, to charge an extra 10 per cent.
