The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe of the case relating to the seizure of 2988.21 Kgs of Narcotics substance at Mundra Port in Gujarat last month.
One of the biggest mysteries, the NIA is reportedly trying to solve is - who is Delhi businessman Kuldeep Singh?
According to?News 18, Kuldeep Singh said to be a Delhi-based businessman was to receive the consignment that was sent from Afghanistan.
But till date, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) which seized the drugs at Mundra Port has not been able to identify who Singh is.
The consignment was imported by Vijayawada-based Aashi Trading company and was declared as 'Semi-processed Talc stones' originating from Afghanistan.
However, Vijayawada Police Commissioner B Sreenivasulu had said that the consignment of heroin was intended to reach Delhi and not Vijayawada.
According to Vijayawada Police, the GST number used for consignment belong to a company registered in Vijayawada.
Govindaraju Durga Purna Vaishali, a resident of Chennai, had taken GST registration in August 2020 on the address D No 23-14-16, Satyanarayanapuram. Machavaram Sudhakar, a resident of Chennai, is the husband of Vaishali. The building is owned by Vaishali's mother Govindaraju Taraka.
The couple has since been arrested by the DRI.
So far 8 people including the couple and some foreign nationals have been arrested, but there is still no clarity on who Kuldeep Singh is.
According to the investigators, the address and phone number of Kuldeep Singh are fake.
Another arrested man, Rajkumar is said to be the one who introduced Sudhakar to an Afghan national Javad who in turn introduced him to another Afghan national Hasan Husain, who imported the consignment.
Following the drug seizure on September 15, it also came to light that this was the second consignment imported by the same company.
The first consignment was imported in June 2021 and is said to be bigger than the one that was seized and it was delivered to an address in Aluipur, Delhi.
